Prologue
For those of you who know Luis and how he hates to travel
(and oh, my, can words describe this? I think not), you will understand
why all of our trips are so amazing and spectacular and wonderful! We had a great time
(even with the pitfalls we have encountered) and we have seen and done so many great things!

Vacation Time!
Welcome, vacationers, to the wonderful world of Aislínge's Travel Experiences!
I have not been to too many places (is there any such thing?) but what I have been to
I thoroughly enjoyed and took many, many pictures of it! So here are a few small examples!
Baltimore, Maryland
25 - 27 May 2001
Baltimore was a mutual decision as it is close by train and beautiful to see with many excellent attractions.
We stayed in a gorgeous suite in the Pier 5 Hotel; ate like royalty; went to the
Maryland Science Center and the famous Baltimore Aquarium, as well as toured the
Constellation. It was an amazing action-packed three-day extravaganza!
This is where we stayed; the rooms were beautiful and had all the amenities (for Luis).!
The unique building which is the Baltimore Aquarium. The odd shape is explained once inside.
This fun looking building was the power plant but was turned into a Barnes & Noble over the last couple of years.
This is the actual Domino Sugar processing plant. Let me tell you that burning sugar cane stinks!
| Downtown
Baltimore and Inner Harbor are the same. The glass buildings make a beautiful backdrop to the waterfront. |
There were storms every day we were in Baltimore, including one tornado (about 5 miles away)!
For $5 you can ride all day on the water taxi company of your choice. The view was a delight!
An interviewer for the local TV news was at the mall and I answered a few questions.
Touring the Constellation was amazing and totally automated, which made it much more informative.
For once, being short is a good thing! Luis did not clear the doorways on the ship.
Guess what! I made it on the local news! I was delighted!
The fish in the Baltimore Aquarium are amazing. They are all beautiful.
| The Tasmanian Kelp seahorse (or seadragon) was incredible! See this special
display if you can! |
This was a great show and well worth seeing. Baltimore has everything geared for all ages.
Luis does a great whale song. Embarrassing to watch but impressive to hear!
A sea anemone growing on the glass. Apparently they will grow anywhere.
A sea urchin. These are rather poisonous and extremely painful to step on.
The colours of the salt water fish are unbelievable!
Wouldn't you know, there was a Science Fiction show in town and aliens running rampant!
Luis and I in front of an old steam engine.
The glass ceiling at the Baltimore Penn Station is lovely.
The train coming in. The ride in both directions was very pleasant, although not good for letter-writing.
Dallas, Texas
17 - 21 May 2001
I have been trying to get to Dallas, Texas to visit with Melissa
Kaplan (affectionately called Smells) and her boyfriend Whit Hyde for a long
time. Thanks to my parents, this was able to happen in May of this year and gave
me a time away from the stress of being unemployed and a chance to see good
friends, new places and learn many new things! Texas was an experience - it was
August in New Jersey with high temperatures and killer humidity; I would not
recommend going there in August unless you love desert temperatures with rain
forest humidity! Tornado and storm warnings are a daily occurrence although none
came to fruition during my stay - RATS!). The countryside is beautiful and the
flora is lush, verdant and heavy!
Flying into the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport. Tornado damage was very visible.
The downtown city of Dallas is gorgeous. At night and on weekends it is totally deserted! It is a unique thing to see an empty city.
Whit & Melissa live here. The interior is beautiful, just like the outside.
Aurora, Moe and Maggie with "Smells" on the bed. Maggie was less friendly but all are lovely.
There I am, standing upon the longhorn steer! He is a very sweet animal but I wouldn't want to own one...
Whit and Melissa in front of the Dallas Original Pancake House.
| Inside the Dallas Aquarium were many great wonders. It will be an amazing
place when complete. |
This was great; feeding time at the Aquarium. A man got in with the fish and had a microphone so he could talk about the fish!
There were huge amounts of fish here. The colours and sizes are amazing!
The Little Niagara Falls in Chickasaw State Park, Oklahoma. The water is great for swimming!
These mares and foals were grazing outside in Oklahoma. The foals are exact duplicates of the mares.
This supercell thunderstorm was brewing over the southeastern United States as we flew by.
